Ingredients
3/4 cup Masoor dahl (red split lentils)
3 1/4 cups water
1 teaspoon turneric
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons ghee or unsalted butter
1 medium minced onion
2 minced garlics
2 dried coarsely chopped red chilis
Directions
1. Put the dahl, liquid, turmeric, cumin, and salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
2. Reduce heat to medium, cook uncovered, for 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently.
3. Cover the pan and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Remove the dahl from the heat, allow to cool slightly, and mash through a sieve.
5. Melt the ghee or butter over medium-high heat and saute the onions, garlic, and red chilis until the onions are well-browned.
6. Stir half of the mixture into the dahl, and put it in a serving dish and serve with the rest of the onion mixture on top.
