Sift together ground chocolate, flour, salt and baking powder. Cream butter with vanilla and spices; add sugar and egg. Beat until light and fluffy. Slowly add sifted ingredients to creamed mixture. Shape into one inch balls and flatten with a fork dipped in sugar. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in 375 degree oven for 10 - 12 minutes. Makes 3 dozen Note: neither cocoa or unsweetened chocolate works as well as the Ghirardelli ground chocolate. I think this is because the ground chocolate is like a cocoa mixture - it has sugar added to it. Maybe if sugar were added to the recipe you could use unsweetened chocolate or cocoa.
